What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Depending on what you do on this site, your data may be collected for a number of different reasons. This data may include personal information that you offer, such as your name and email address in comments, the contact form, or in your courses.

When you take courses here at Empathy Academy, the site will store your information: your name, email, password, and avatar. This site will also track your progress in your courses and keep track of the courses you’ve taken. This site will keep track of your friend relationships and allow you to send private messages to your friends.

This site also has a private group forum attached to each course so that you can post questions, answer questions, and converse with your instructors and classmates.

If you purchase anything, your transaction data, such as purchase information, will be collected. This site may also collect technical data, such as information about cookies, and analytical data, such as the browser or platform you’re using or whether you got here through a web search.

We collect this data for a variety of reasons, depending on the context of your visit. The reasons are explained below, and your options for what happens to your data are explained below as well.

If you would like to download the file of data we hold about you (if any), you can request it here.

If you would like to delete the data we hold about you (if any), you can request that we do so here.

WPLMS (Word Press Learning Management System)

When you take a course here, the WPLMS stores your account information and your course progress, and keeps track of where you are in each of your courses.

WPLMS Privacy Policy

If you have friends in your courses, your friendships are managed by a program called BuddyPress, which keeps track of your friendships and allows you to send and receive private email messages with your friends here on the site. Buddy Press keeps a record of all of your correspondence, and you can delete your email threads in your Inbox whenever you like. You can also unfriend people whenever you like, and choose not to accept friend requests.

BuddyPress Privacy Policy (WordPress)

Another program within the WPLMS is BBPress, which is a bulletin-board program that manages our course forums. BBPress keeps track of the forums you belong to, it displays and stores your comments, and it notifies you when people post in the forums you’ve subscribed to.
