Exploring Risk: Embracing Your Fear

Exploring Risk: Embracing Your Fear

Your emotions bring you gifts and genius, and you can learn how to access them

In this live Zoom workshop, instructor and Dynamic Emotional Integration ® professional Heather Giasson will walk you through an exploration of your current approach to risk and introduce how the fear family is tailored to supporting you in these moments. Grasping a better understanding of how fear helps direct you through times of change can help you reframe how you engage in risk.

Heather Giasson

Risk is something that each of us will define and respond to differently. When we aren’t consciously engaged with what our blueprint of defining risk is, we’re in the dark way more than is necessary. By engaging with fear, the emotion that helps us navigate through times of change and novelty, we’re going to explore the forward-moving support that fear offers. We also need to make sure we can distinguish the differences between fear, confusion, panic, and anxiety, because misunderstanding any of these emotions means that we’ll miss vital information and guidance.

The smaller workshop size of 15 people leaves room for more conversation, to learn from each other and engage in the experience fully. We’ll reflect on the impact of misnaming emotions and how that often prevents us from being able to move through situations as well as missing the gifts that are being offered.

What You’ll Learn

  • Your current blueprint for how you approach (or avoid) risk, and how increasing your emotion-naming skills could transform that blueprint
  • Understanding and distinguishing between fear, anxiety, confusion, and panic
  • An exploration of the specific gifts fear, anxiety, panic, and confusion contain
  • How to determine which emotion is present by understanding the function of each emotion

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why do I need emotions?

A: The simple answer is because they are a part of you. However, learning to work with them can be hard in a world that says, directly or indirectly, that it’s better not to have them — and if you have to have them, it’s best to ignore them. Learning to work with your emotions based on how they are trying to help you can transform every part of your life.

Q: How can I feel more happiness?

A: The playfulness of happiness is wonderful, and yet when you need get things done, set boundaries, or orient to your surroundings, it simply isn’t the emotion that will help you through those experiences. Learning to embrace your full range of emotions can give you access to so much of the support you’ve been looking for.

Q: How can I only feel the good emotions?

A: This is such a common question, and classifying emotions as good or bad is one of the huge hurdles that gets in the way of working with them. All of the emotions have unique gifts and functions that can support us in ingenious ways. This workshop focuses on discovering the gifts emotions bring us without naming or classifying them first. This approach really shakes up our good/bad attitudes and shows us how all emotions have a vital role to play in our lives.

Q: Will this workshop help me understand my emotions better?

A: Yes! There is a teaching portion about emotions in this workshop, but the real gold is in discovering the emotional genius that is already present yet may be overlooked or misunderstood.
